The single parent life.

To say the last few months have been busy would be an understatement. It has been so crazy around here!! Chad has been traveling to Nebraska for work every week–so during the week it’s just been Preston and me. Every weekend seems packed full as well!

I’ve been watching our cute little neighbor boy 3 days a week. It’s definitely been great for Preston. He loves Joey so much and they have so much fun playing together. I love watching them interact. They do such a great job sharing and taking turns. I’m hoping this will prepare Preston for being a big brother, too!

(^^ready for a bike ride, mom!!)

Little Preston is such a ham! He reminds me of when I was young. Looks and silly-ness!

I think Chads traveling has been wearing on me. Not because Preston is a handful, he’s absolutely not! He’s actually SO very good for me 95% of the time. My sweet boy. But it’s all the other things that come up while your husband is away.

For example: a few nights (mornings?) ago at 5am the smoke detector in our bedroom went off and continued to go off every 30 minutes. At first I thought it was from the humidifier in our room (i was also battling a horrible head cold), I drug a barstool in from the kitchen and I had to balance this 25 week prego  body on a high barstool to get the button pushed for temporary silence. (The bad thing about high 14′ ceilings). The alarms were going off and it eventually woke Preston up, (of course, chad was gone), I was so frustrated, tired, and sick (and pregnant) so I started crying and Preston crawled on my lap and gave me a huge hug and said ‘it’s okay, mama’. He’s just too sweet!! I finally got the ladder hauled inside from the garage (a huge heavy metal/steel? one) to change the batteries (Chad had to talk me through putting the latter up while i sobbed uncontrollably over the phone) but as soon as I unhooked the smoke detector and the alarm went off Preston goes ‘yay!! You did it Mommy!!’. He’s my little cheerleader for sure. Later, Chad was talking to Preston about it on the phone, Chad asked Preston about it and he said ‘it woke me up in my crib and scared me. I cried in my crib. Mommy was sad and crying. Had to change batteries’. Gosh he is just so cute. I seriously can’t get over how sweet and cute my little boy is!! The funny thing is that they went off again this morning! OMG (chad’s gone) it really was my humidifier (just getting over my week long sickness). At least this time I knew exactly what needed to be done. (the darn ladder below)

We’re trying to get our house ready to put on the market as well. So I’ve been over working myself trying to scrub our walls, trim, and floors. I’ve organized the inside of all of our closets and under the sinks. Lets just say by about 3pm I can no longer move! It’s been killing my back for sure! I’ve been making many trips to the Salvation Army and lifting things I probably shouldn’t be lifting. My mind won’t stop running about everything that needs to happen before December when Pip2 will be here. I’m just praying we can sell our house and won’t be living out of a hotel with a toddler and a newborn. 😮

Come buy our house!!

Preston has been his cute little self lately. He is so into learning it’s crazy! I’ve read a few things about teaching children (for example, teaching them to identify letters rather than just memorizing the alphabet and teaching kids to actually count during that time, rather than memorizing to count to 10.) Well, Preston has known to identify the letters in the alphabet since he was a little over 18 months. Lately, I’ve really noticed that he’s knows how to count, too! Which is great, because I’ve felt like a slacker Mom lately. The other day we were driving by wal-mart and they are doing construction outside to build a new bigger one. Preston said, “Mommy, I saw 3 diggers, 2 bulldozers, and 1 semi at the construction site’. After that he told me 1 digger was red, 1 was orange, and 1 was yellow. Once we got home he told me we got to go over 3 railroad tracks, too! (which was true, we went over 3 sets of tracks on our drive to and from our CSA–took a different route on the ride home).

Last night I let Preston stay up until 8:30 (past his bedtime) because he was so focused on reviewing his letters of the alphabet! He kept going through all of them telling me what they were. This morning Preston woke up and wanted to learn about money. So I got out some quarters, pennies, dimes, and nickels. He knows what a penny is and a dime. Still working on quarters (or quarts, as preston would say) and nickels.

I had my Glucose test at my prenatal appointment last week. I passed, YAY! Pip2’s heart rate was 140’s. Can’t wait to meet this little guy, but glad to keep him in and cooking for the next 3 months!

24 weeks

25 weeks

Tomorrow the hubby and I will celebrate our 4th anniversary. We are hoping to hit up an apple orchard/pumpkin patch and then have a babysitter arranged for a date night! Time has flown by, but I can honestly say, this has been the best time of my life! Four years in and I still feel like this marriage thing is…don’t hate me…but it’s easy. Chad and I get along, we agree on things 98% of the time, we share parenting styles and views on spending vs. saving, we have our own likes and interests, yet enjoy hanging out together and as a family. It’s been a crazy fun adventure and I can’t wait to see what the next year will bring!

Today Preston and I did some painting (handprint/footprint art) to make a card and picture for Chad and the little stinker spilled the beans to him on the phone today. “i made a lion with my feetprint. Card for daddy” “mommy painted my hand. Made a fish”

Every night before bed, I sing to Preston. His favorite is the Itsy Bitsy Spider. But I LOVE hearing him sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (or Tinkle Tinkle Yee-ole Star). Preston is so cute that he can’t say his L’s very well.

Yesterday my uncle John passed away. It was very unexpected. He was always such a joy to be around! My favorite memories of him are from the houseboat we used to rent every summer growing up! His funeral will be next week in my hometown. Hug your loved ones a little tighter tonight!! ❤

Enough of my rambling. Time to fold laundry! Hubby will be home tonight, thankfully! I hope everyone has a great weekend.

…until next time!! xoxo ❤

Dear Punky,

dear Punky,

I’m sorry we left you for almost 3 weeks. Your daddy and I went to Australia for my best friend’s wedding! I was the maid (matron 😁) of honor; it was something I’ll remember forever.  We missed you so much but we know you had so much fun hanging out with your auntie, uncle, and cousin! You even got to spend time with your grandma and grandpa, too!!! I know you had so much fun bonding with them. While your daddy and I were gone–we were able to spend time together!! We even made a side trip to New Zealand!! We rented a campervan and drove around the entire South Island! It is time together we will never forget!! We missed you so much!!! But luckily, you were able to bond with your cousin, Noble. You went to gymnastics, the children’s museum, and did build-a-bear together!! You actually missed your dog, Bentley, (or as you call him, Bobo) so much that you named your new puppy (that you picked out at build-a-bear) ‘bobo’ that just happens to be almost identical to your own dog. You did really well the whole time we were gone. We were so happy to see you happy!!! It made our trip go by so flawlessly! It wasn’t until 2 nights prior to our departure from New Zealand that your auntie and Grandma told us you were crying out for ‘mama and daddy’ at bedtime. That broke my heart and made me want to come home!! We know you had so much fun and you were able to enjoy your first ever 3 days at daycare!!!! You did so well–and napped well!! I think it’s because you had your cousin, Noble, there with you. But when we came home you came up and grabbed me and squeezed me sooo tight in, what seemed like, a never ending hug. You kissed me and kissed me!!! You went to daddy and hugged and kissed him, too!! That night it was hard to put you down for bed because you were scared that we wouldn’t be there in the morning. It broke my heart. The next morning you yelled out for mama and daddy, and we came and grabbed you so quickly!!! Daddy went back to work that day and you hugged and kissed me all day long!!! It took forever to get you down for a nap because you were still sad I wouldn’t be there when you woke up! I rocked you to sleep and laid you in your crib. After a couple days you realized we weren’t going to leave you again. It breaks my heart to think about how much you missed us!!! Even though our trip was amazing and so worth it, it’ll take a lot for me to leave you again. You still get sad when one of us is out of sight from you… we have to remind you we are just going to the bathroom or running out to the car. I know it’ll pass, but in the meantime, it breaks my heart. You learned so much with your auntie and cousin. When we came home you were speaking in sentences. You were able to sing ‘twinkle twinkle little star’. You could count to ten flawlessly… and with confidence!! You are such a strong and smart young boy!!!! We love you so much and are so proud of you!!!! I just want you to know, we will never leave you and not come back. You are our entire life and we are better because of you!!!!

I love you so much, Punky!!!!!!!!

Snow Day!!

We’ve been enjoying this #snowday so much! We made smoothies with breakfast and went outside to frolic in the snow!

We did a little shoveling and built a nice big fort!! #fortpunk

It’s pretty hard to see with all the white. but it’s there!

We tried building a snowman, but Bentley had the neighbor dog over to play, and they kept eating our snowballs. Pretty soon it just turned into a snowball fight. Punk and me against the dogs.

Preston is a little snow bunny!! He didn’t want to come inside!!

When we got back inside we ate lunch and baked some sweet potato chips for dessert. 😛

Preston is the best little sous chef!

Not only did he help me cook lunch and make dessert, he helped me make a little coconut oil & grapefruit lotion.

cute jars are compliments of Target $1 spot! woohoo!

It’s hard to believe yesterday was sunny and 35 degrees and today its a blizzard! This was us yesterday, soaking up all the vitamin D we could get:

That wraps up this snow day! Hopefully after nap time we can go out and finish that snowman we were trying to make earlier!

{{slight pause in the blog post as I hear Preston crying from his crib, I run upstairs and he has nail polish all over his hands and crib, at first I thought it was blood (whew, it wasn’t) …but it was everywhere! I’m thinking blood might have been easier to clean up….but I still prefer the nail polish over the blood. Now i’m wondering how he ended up in bed with a bottle of my (pink & red) nail polish…time to move it up a little higher…}}

…until next time! xoxo ❤

Fall Time is the Best Time.

It’s October, which means our weekly CSA has ended and my dining room table will no longer have fresh flowers on it; but it also means, changing leaves, crisp fall air, cozy snuggles by the fireplace, pumpkin patches, apple orchards, oversized sweaters, boots, and scarves!

Preston and I braved the cool 40 degree weather today! After a 15 minute meltdown and a time-out because he didn’t want to wear a hat, he finally realized I wasn’t backing down. He’s still cute when he’s mad!

Once we got outside he realized that he NEEDED that hat. The wind was so strong!! We took little BoBo on a walk and enjoyed the cool breeze. It was so refreshing.

There is just something about the fall time that makes everything better! Even though, with fall, comes the fall turnarounds at Chad’s work. We don’t like when he’s gone, but we try to make the most of it! Preston is my little sidekick. He is with me so often, that when I finally get a chance to run errands by myself, it seems as if I’ve left my arm at home or something.

We try to make the most of hubby’s time at home though! We’ve already been to two pumpkin patches, an apple orchard, and to The Berry Patch. Preston had so much fun picking the raspberries!

At The Berry Patch:

At the Apple Orchard Preston ate so many apples he had a tummy ache for the rest of the evening. All he wanted to do was snuggle!!DSC_0989

We had fun at Bloomsbury Farm. Preston was so tired though! We stayed the night at my SIL’s house and he woke up SO EARLY (6:30 a.m.)  because he wanted to play in his cousin’s toy room! I don’t blame him! 😛

It was hard to get a ‘good’ picture of him. But sometimes those are my favorite pictures! The ones that show real life situations. That way when we look back, we will remember the not-so-perfect times as well! Parenting is hard. Motherhood is hard. Being a toddler is hard.

Chad and I did sneak in a picture of just him and me. Posing with the Farmer Dolls or whatever they’re called. 😉

We are thankful that Preston enjoys going in the bike trailer. We were able to ride our bikes to the farmer’s market–just hand Punky an apple and he’s good to go! haha 🙂

We are going to another apple orchard this weekend. We want to pick more apples to make some homemade applesauce and possibly more apple cinnamon sangrias… 😛 They are delicious!!!!

The rest of the weekend we will probably spend a lot of time outside with Preston, teaching him how to use is new (to him) scooter!

So far, Fall has been great to us! Hopefully it’s been great to you too!

….until next time! xoxo

Preston – 18 months

Today is a beautiful day! It is 58 degrees here. The windows are open, I’m sitting in my newly decorated family room, and Preston is snoozing.

Every Wednesday after his nap we head to the Farmer’s Market at the Mall.  I buy fresh flowers for our dinner table (it’s a summer luxury :)) and then we head out to Prairie Moon Winery to pick up our weekly CSA share (Community Supported Agriculture). It’s our way of supporting local farmers and putting money back into our community. I cannot wait until Preston is old enough to help up pick out vegetables at the Farmers Market. I’ve already decided I’m going to give him $5 each week so he can budget and buy whatever he would like while we’re there!

…any who, back to the reason for the post…

Today, my baby is 18 months old!

He’s been up to so much lately & learning new things everyday.

He loves dirt.

{{and many other things: playing outside, swimming, picking tomatoes from the garden (that’s the only time he’ll eat them–freshly picked!), walking his dog, and bath time}}. But mainly, he loves dirt. Eating it, playing with it, throwing it, mixing it with water and smearing it. You name it! If it involves dirt, he loves it! haha! Oh yeah, he also loves sand. YUCK! I hate sand. But he loves it, so the sand will stay. 😉

One thing he does NOT like is diaper changes! And, now I know why! He is ready to potty train! Even though I’m not ready to start the stresses of potty training, Preston is. He is always coming up to me telling me when he is going potty in his diaper. So I just went with it. I’d sit him on the potty but usually he had already gone in his diaper by then. I’m just glad he knows when he’s going. Well, today of all days, he comes up to me and tells me he has to potty and then takes me to the big potty and grabs toilet paper (lol –monkey see, monkey do). I sit him up on the potty and he poops! Seriously, like 5 seconds after I sat him down. Now I know he is ready. Today when I was at Target I bought some pull-ups! I’m not ready to go straight to undies! Especially with how young he is, and I’m definitely tired of taking a diaper on and off. So, wish me luck as I enter into this whole potty training thing!

Everyday I am reminded of how big our boy is getting. He hasn’t used his highchair in a few months. He can feed himself with a spoon and a fork and can dip his veggies in hummus!! He is talking all the time. He can say a two word sentence: ‘all gone’. Everyday he is saying new words and copying what we say. He is a master at his puzzles!! I was reading that once they master the puzzle, have them do it upside down, he can do that now! He loves building with his legos and his hot wheels are a new favorite. He either has a car in each hand or his pig in one hand and his horse in another. I love watching his imaginative play; hearing him say ‘vroom’ with his cars as they drive across the coffee table and when he makes animal noises as he plays with his farm is so amazing!

I feel like I’m rambling. I’m just trying to get as much out as I can while Preston is still napping!! He is down to one nap a day. Usually it’s anywhere between 2-3 hours. It’s really nice because that means we have more daylight to go out and do things! He sleeps about 11 hours a night (give or take a half an hour).

We recently decorated Preston’s ‘big boy room’. I wanted to get the room all painted and decorated before I ever got pregnant again. I just remember moving when I was pregnant with Preston and I always felt so helpless. It was hard for me to decorate his nursery since I was SO pregnant. I figured I would get his big boy room all decorated and turn it into his toy room, until it was time to move in there. That way he would be familiar with it and love to go in there. It’s not completely finished, but I’ve got the hard parts done!

Preston does this really cute stance when you say ‘take your mark, get set, GO’. It’s pretty adorable!!! A picture doesn’t even do it justice! Who knows, maybe I will have to upgrade by blog do I can upload videos. Some day. 😛

Preston still puts his hand down my shirt, pretty much all the time. I’m not really sure why, but he loves it. I don’t even notice it anymore, but I can always feel people getting a little awkward that there is a hand down my shirt pretty much every time I hold him. Haha!!

He loves his Dada more than anything! It was actually a little heartbreaking, because last time Chad was gone for work (about 4 days) every morning when Preston would wake up he would say “Dada” and when i would come in his room, he would start crying and try to run away from me. Seriously, that’s a really sad story when I write it out. Poor little Preston just wanted his Dada. They are the best of buds!! {{dada wearing Punky’s hat. haha!)

Prestons second favorite Bestie is his Grandpa Bob. He squeals and runs to him every time he comes over! They have the best little bond.

Sweet corn is a favorite around here. Especially now that we live in Iowa again. Preston can’t even wait for the corn to be cooked before he starts gobbling it down.

But let’s be honest, not every moment is as perfect as it sounds!

Well, I better leave it at that!!! Bring on football season!

…until next time! xoxo ❤

Preston – 8 months

It’s October! and it’s Sunday. AND OUR LITTLE MAN IS 8 MONTHS!!

oh the changes!!

{{he has hair!! ^^^}}

It’s so hard for me to believe how big our little guy is getting. He’s 21 pounds {{same as last month!}} and 27 inches long.

So our little man is growing in length but thinning out. I miss his {{excessive}} chub already. I was just looking at a photo of him from a few months ago and he was SOO chubby. He’s slimmed down a lot. He actually fits into his bumbo again. Which is really nice, especially when we’re trying to cook.

Our boy just started crawling on the 15th. He did it on his own without help or prompting. He really had NO interest in crawling, or moving for that matter! Now that he’s been crawling for a few days, he’s really getting the hang of it.  This was the one milestone i was NOT looking forward to!

…Now, to baby-proof!

He loves standing and it really good at standing while holding on to something {{one handed}}.

He can stand alone for a few seconds but that’s about it.

He has been really interested in walking {{with help}}.

He loves walking around the whole house..especially when he gets to walk to his dog, Bentley. They are going to be the best of buds!!

{{caught bentley winking…lol 😉 }}

He loves playing with ‘mirror baby’ and also kissing ‘mirror baby’!!

{{he just has too much fun with mirror baby…maybe he needs a sibling… 😉 }}

Our boy is still eating like a champ. He loves his mama milk and his baby food!! He will down a few containers of baby food in one sitting if we don’t put a stop to it after awhile. He will eat anything! I sure hope this lasts…I’m praying he won’t be a picky eater…

Preston and I have been enjoying the PERFECT fall weather the last few days.

We took a trip to the park to swing and walk around. He still LOVES swinging. and people. and kids. and babies!!

We’ve also been taking long walks. He’s not as good on his walks as he used to be…unless he’s being carried in the Ergo. He loves being close to us.

{{I love fall in our neighborhood.}}

Actually I just love fall in our town!!

We have been doing so many fun things on the weekends.

Hitting up the parks!

Enjoying the awesome views!

Taking long walks!

Just enjoying being with our little family!

Going to the Farmers market on saturday mornings has become a fun tradition for us!

We are going to be so sad when it’s done for the season!

On the 14th our little muffy said MAMA!!!! It was music to my ears. He’s been saying DADA for a while now…and to hear him say MAMA, was the best! Those are his first two words. I’ll take it! 🙂

Our boy is such a silly little guy. He loves ‘talking’, making silly noises, and blowing bubbles.

He still has 2 teeth but is cutting his third on the top {{the right center tooth}}. His hair is starting to get thicker and it’s also getting a lot darker. He’s starting to look more like a little boy every day. and i SWEAR he gets cuter by the minute..if that’s even possible! 🙂 He still takes 2 naps a day…sometimes even 3 naps.

Last night he only had two naps and went to bed at 6:30pm and slept until 7:20 am. He must have been exhausted!!! He did wake up at 4am to eat though.

{{after this ^^^ happened, we had to hang some shelves to put the monitor on–outside of his crib!}}

We have been so good about taking him to pumpkin patches, apple orchards, and creameries.

He was able to ‘help’ us pick berries.

AND he even tried a few!

He also went on his first hayrack ride.

{{of course one of us isn’t ready…}}

He LOVES his bath time.

He loves splashing around and playing with his rubber ducky and other fun bath toys.

He still enjoys the nursery at the gym!

We ventured out to a cute little shop in Jewell and bought him a globe!

If you remember, last month we took a trip to Galveston to visit Preston’s aunties right after his 7 month birthday. We had a blast!! Let spam a few photos of our trip.

{{pilot photobomb^^^}}

Let’s just say the last month has been so fun!! Especially since it’s Punkys first Fall!!

First football season!

He has changed soooo much! Still full of smiles though!! 🙂

We just have so much fun together…

I just LOVE staying at home with him!

…until next time! xoxo
