Jack – 6 months

Happy half birthday to our little Bear!!

IMG_4745

Jack is such a little sweetie. He’s our chill – go with the flow – happy baby.

IMG_4710

He has been trying SO hard to crawl lately!! He gets those arms up and will push his legs forward, but he just hasn’t figured out how to get the to work together! haha. He isn’t able to get up on his knees yet!

IMG_4819

he does so well sitting up without falling over.

IMG_4689

He enjoys sitting up to play with his toys!

IMG_4679

He loves looking in the mirror and is always smiling at himself and when you talk to him and hold him up in the air!! That always makes him giggle. He’s still our smiley boy.

IMG_1684

(below is a picture of the boys in Iceland)

IMG_4433

When I was at Meijer this morning I had him facing forward in my infantino baby carrier and every single person we passed made a comment about how happy of a baby he was. Aparently he was flashing gummy smiles at everyone!! I lost count of how many people mentioned his smile at 20. 😳👏🏼

IMG_4226

Jack gets some baby food around dinner time. His favorite is peas so far. I did give him a few scrambled eggs the other day, he wasn’t too sure about that! He also had a mini bagel last weekend. Oops! He was in the carrier and wanted something to play with and we were at a pot luck so I saw a mini bagel for him to hold. The next thing I knew he has a tiny soggy piece left in the palm of his hand. Haha 🤣

IMG_4176

I give Jack a bottle every day at 5pm. I really want Jack to take a bottle since Preston never did. So I make sure to give him one everyday. He will drink anywhere from 3-5 oz which is great for an EBF baby!

image

Jack went on his first campout last weekend. We slept in a tent and the temps got down into the 40’s. So in order to keep warm we threw the book out the window and coslept and snuggled with lots of blankets and pillows. Brr!! He did really well and slept through the night! Woohoo!

speaking of sleeping through the night, jack has regressed a bit since we’ve returned from Iceland. Before we left, he slept a good 11 hours without waking. Now he will wake 1-2 times per night. Sometimes a binky will put him back down and sometimes I have to feed him. I’m hoping it’s a short lived stage and he’s just adjusting to being back!! Funny thing is that he slept through the night the entire 2 weeks we were in Iceland!!

IMG_1818

jack still doesn’t nap well. I can usually get him to take a nap first thing in the morning. The next nap all depends on what we have going on. Usually he will only nap 2 times a day (45 min each). If I’m lucky I can get him to nap for 1.5 hrs on days that Preston has school!

IMG_4766

jack weighs 23 pounds! He’s actually slowed down on the weight gain. He’s only gained one pound since last month! He still feels like carrying a sack of cement around. haha! my poor back!

IMG_4403

This weekend we are celebrating Jack with a nice long weekend at home!!! We will have 5 days with nothing to do. I can’t wait. It’ll be glorious!! Our first weekend home in over a month. We are hoping to get in a few bike rides, a picnic, maybe a couple trips to the library, aquatic center, and even the zoo! It should be a good time.

oh, and he loves his big Bro!! SO MUCH!!! Preston can get Jack to laugh like no one else! 🙂

IMG_1634

well that’s about it for our little Jack Bear!

…until next time! xoxo ❤

On the move!

Hi friends! I figured I’d do a little update of everything that’s been happening lately. After coming home from a much needed weekend away with my sisters and Che, the only thing that could have made life sweeter was an offer on our house.

A little overview of the last few days: I left home on Thursday to head to Chicago for a weekend away. Chad stayed at home with Preston until Sunday and then they headed to Chicago to meet Emily and I for dinner. We had an inspection on our new house on Monday. Heading back to Iowa after our inspection, we got a showing request for first thing Tuesday morning. So Chad dropped Preston and I off at my parents house and he headed straight to Nebraska for work. (That way we didn’t have to worry about getting out of the house before Preston even wakes up in the morning!) I was a little nervous as I hadn’t been home since Thursday, but knew I could trust hubby’s cleaning abilities.

So anyway, call me crazy, or hormonal and pregnant, but yesterday (tuesday) was the day for happy tears. Preston and I got home after being gone since Thursday. When I walked in the house and saw how clean and perfect Chad had left our house, I just couldn’t help but try and fight back the tears. I was so impressed! That’s been the stress of having our house on the market–keeping it perfectly clean for showings! Shortly after that, I received a call from our realtor, we had TWO offers coming in! um, what?! I was just so happy that there were people who loved our house just like we did. One of the couples even asked if we’d be interested in selling any of our furniture with the house, I was so flattered! 🙂 Anyway, with one of the offers that came in, also came with a letter to us from them. The letter was perfect and sweet and made me cry. They talked about how they loved how we had our house decorated and how it was already baby proofed. They have a 2 year old and a baby on the way this winter. (um, what? just like us!). They talked about how their son had found our raspberry bush in the backyard and couldn’t help but pick the raspberries and eat them (one of Preston’s favorite things to do) and they said that he played in the Preston’s sandbox the whole time they looked at our house. This letter couldn’t have been more perfect. It was just what I needed to hear. It’s been so hard thinking about even leaving this house that we have grown in and love, but knowing that there is a new family, just like us, that will be taking our place makes it seem a little more bearable. We’ve written a letter to send back to them and can’t wait for them to read it! Makes me cry just typing this up.

Those of you who have been unfortunate enough to be around me since we listed our house the beginning of October, know how stressed and worried I have been. Thank you for listening to me stress and worry and vent. I swear this whole process would have been so much better had I not been weeks away from having a baby.

(what if our house won’t sell? what if the contingency expires on the house we made an offer on in Illinois?  what if we are living out of a hotel with a toddler and a newborn? When can i start going through baby clothes for Pip? When can i start nesting? Am I stressing so much I’m going to go into early labor? Should I start packing my hospital bag?) you get the jist! #basketcase #nutjob

We are excited for the new adventures ahead, it’s going to be so bittersweet leaving this home! This is the home that we welcomed Preston home to and the one where we found out we were adding another bundle to our family! Hoping the next house will be perfect to making many new memories.

…until next time! xoxo

a little cuteness.

Today when we were saying goodbye to Chad:

I said, ‘i love you!!’

Preston said, ‘I’ and I said, ‘Love’, and he said, ‘YOU!!!’.

I wanted Preston to say it by himself. So next time he said, ‘I’ and paused, and I said, ‘what comes after I?’ and he said, ‘J’…. I had to do a quick run through of the alphabet, lol, but yes, you’re right, ‘J’ does come after ‘I’! haha!!

Chad and I looked at each other like, ‘who is this kid?!’. Oh the way the mind thinks. And to think, he’s not even 2 yet!

image

Preston uses his little stool for everything. He pushes that sucker all over the house! It’s pretty cute and resourceful. He uses it to turn on and off lights, to get food and drinks, etc.! I had to snap this photo because as I was laying in and he was just doing his thing, and I was just thinking, ‘he will never be this young again. he will never be this tiny again!’ it was a crazy thought!

image

I’m trying to remember all the cute things Preston does before I forget them all. It seems like just yesterday he would say ‘ek’ intead of ‘x’ and ‘eee’ for ‘train’ (because that’s the noise the train made when it went by our house).

Now the cute favorites are:

‘bork’ \\ fork

‘poon’ \\ spoon

‘bopcorn’ \\ popcorn

‘bup’ \\ cup

‘poppee’ \\ coffee

‘bi-base’ \\ fireplace

His f’s sound like b’s and his c’s sound like b’s. It’s the most adorable thing! What’s funny is that he can say is r’s so clearly, and that was the letter both Chad and I couldn’t say when we were young.

Preston knows his whole alphabet and has for awhile now. When we read his book ‘Chicka Chicka Boom Boom’, he always says, ‘R’ and other ‘r’, for capital and lowercase. I’m impressed he knows the uppercase and lowercase versions of the alphabet. What i was even more impressed with though, we were at Red Lobster eating with my Mom a few weeks ago and Preston was able to tell us every letter in ‘Red Lobster’ when it was backwards! The letters were on the window so people outside could read them, he knew what they were even when they were transposed.

I swear, if I did baby birthday parties, i would have his second birthday party theme be letters. haha!! No joke, he would be ecstatic.

Most recently we’ve been working on numbers. He can count, he just doesn’t like to do it. Which is fine, but I always like to squeeze counting in every time we climb stairs and walk past cars, etc! Just to expose him to it! No drilling here, just fun learning.

He knows his colors. Today we were downstairs by his little Christmas tree (yes, it’s still up, but it’s the only Christmas decoration that’s still out) and he was able to name off all the colors on his tree with no prompting. Yellow, blue, green, red, and pink. I think pink is his favorite color! He definitely seems to favor it!!

Today when we were coloring, I showed Preston how to write a ‘P’ step by step and he did one too. It was pretty cool! (below, you can see my green ‘P’ and his huge blueish gray ‘P’)

image

Preston still refers to himself at ‘Punky’. Even when i say ‘Preston’ he says ‘Punky!!’ I guess that’s what we get for only referring to him as Punky for he majority of his life. haha!!! I can just see it now, Punky H. on the roster for sport in high school.  hahaha!! 🙂

Tonight after I took Preston’s diaper off for ‘nakey time’ he looked at me and said, ‘pee pee’. I asked him if he needed to go sit on the potty and he said, ‘yes’. so we ran to the potty, he sat down, and he went! YAY!!!!! no prompting, no pressuring. all on his own. 🙂 I was so proud!!!! Chad was still at work so I made sure to FaceTime my parents so we could all celebrate together! Now i really need to make that sticker reward chart!!

image

One last thing, Preston had his first night in his big boy room!! He did so well! He slept his usual 12 hours. We were so proud of him!!

image

Now we are off to make brownies! 😛

…until next time! xoxo ❤

Top 15 of 2015!

With 2015 coming to and end, I thought I would do a little review of our year, sharing some of the highlights!

  1. To start off: In January we took a trip down to Dodge City, Kansas, to visit our dear friends! This was the first time I was able to meet their sweet daughter, Penelope. This was also the first time they were able to meet Preston! That’s the hard part about living so far away. 😦 While we were there, we also found out that they we expecting baby #2! It was quite the surprise for everyone!!

IMG_43982.  In February Preston had his first swimming class. He was a natural fishy!! His teacher said he was so comfortable in the water and he was always kicking his feet and splashing around! I was lucky enough to be able to get in the water with him EVERY TIME (lol – slight sarcasm – hubby failed guppy class as a babe)

IMG_55463.  Our one and only, Preston, turned ONE in February. The first year of his life went by so fast. We are enjoying this time with Preston as we do not have another child yet. He is so much fun and always being super cute!! We are so very lucky and always say that we ‘won the kid lottery’. (although, just yesterday, I was telling my hubby I think he’s turning into a real toddler, with the fits he will throw when he needs to take off his jammies.) Otherwise, Preston is impressing us daily with how smart he is! He knew his whole alphabet by the time hew as 18 months. He can now identify primary colors. He is talking up a storm and can say 3 syllable words. When we were counting the stairs the other day, he surprised me because I said one, two, he said three, i said four, he said five, i said six, seven, he said eight, i said nine, and he said ten! I was so shocked because he’s never counted for us before. Anyway, Preston is pretty much our highlight everyday!

4.  In May we took our first trip without Preston. We went down to Galveston, Texas, because my sister and her boyfriend were graduating from Medical School. It was such a nice trip. It was my first time away from Preston (that was more than 24 hours). We had a blast riding our bikes along the gulf, drinking hurricanes by the pool at Float, bar hopping on our bikes, and just relaxing the way parents dream when they don’t have a tiny human to care for. Thanks to our amazing mother in law for caring for him and our dog, Bentley!

IMG_9025 IMG_9042 IMG_9063 IMG_9135 IMG_91555.  In June, we headed to Seattle to visit my husbands family. This was the first time most of them had met Preston. We were able to do fun touristy things, while working around Preston’s nap. We went to the zoo, the space needle, we were able to take a little boat ride while grammy watched the boys (Preston and his cousin, Noble). We had so much fun and Preston did really well on the flights!

IMG_9319 IMG_94076.  Right after Seattle, we headed to Milwaukee to help my sister move into her house! We painted, and cleaned, and helped decorate and hang things on the walls. She is doing her residency there and bought the most adorable little house!! It was a hidden gem for sure. We love having her so close!!

7.  In September, my dear friend Rindi came to visit!! We were able to hang out and tailgate and enjoy the short weekend together!!

IMG_1970 IMG_19968.  Hubby and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary on September 15th. To celebrate, we took Preston to the zoo and went to Zombie Burger for lunch. It was the perfect day!

IMG_20879.  In October I died parts of my hair blue!! This was the firs time i’ve ever done anything crazy to my hair. I love it!! It’s hard to see in pictures, but you can see the blue so well in the sunlight!! I love that it’s subtle, yet drastic. 🙂 *it was my ‘i’m turning 30 in a few months rebellion* #ifyoudontdoitbefore30you’llneverdoit sort of thing. haha!

IMG_2723   10.  Preston dressed up as Superman for Halloween this year!! I had a minor Mom fail at first, we never ended up making it to my SIL’s house, where his costume was, so I ran out the night before to pick him up a last minute costume, only to find out it was trick or treating at the mall that night and every parent had their adorable dressed up child there, except me. I bought a costume and threw it on Preston so we could partake! I’ll never forget the feelings I felt that night.

image11.  In November we had our first professional family photos. It was scheduled during Preston’s nap time and it went as I thought it would. Preston was cranky and fussy. The photographer had to work really hard to get him to smile-but she did a great job! The only thing that sucks about having the photographer work so hard at making your child smile, is that she doesn’t catch crooked shirts, off centered necklaces, Thomas the Train socks showing, Peanut M&M clenched in the hand of a toddler, etc.

   12.  In December, I celebrated my 30th birthday! My friends went above and beyond, they made dinner reservations, rented a limo, and we cruised around a partied all night! It was so perfect!!! I was gifted a cute Kate Spade Crossbody, some copper shot glasses, warm fingerless mittens, and a helicopter ride over the Glaciers when hubby and I go to New Zealand in a few months. My parents got me a BlueRay Player and some bath towels which was amazing, sisters both got me an amazing purses, and my hubby spoiled me with flowers, cooking me breakfast, getting me a new iPhone, and other little surprises every time i turned the corner!! I felt like a queen for sure.

 13.   My best friend who lives in Australia, came back to the States over Christmas! She’s getting married in March so we were able to go wedding dress shopping with her!! She found the dress and it is perfect!!  I cannot wait to be her Maid of Honor. It has been such an honor being her friend these past 10 years. She is such an amazing person with a heart of gold. I love her to BITS!! lol (Bits is her nickname for me – she actually came up with it when we were drunk and bickering in college, I told her I was going to call her Keeks (she hated it – but it stuck) and she said ‘well then ill call you BITS for BIG F*ING TITS) So here we are, 10 years later, Keeks & Bits.

 14.  Christmas was so perfect this year!! Both of my sisters were able to make it back for the holiday. This hasn’t happened in years! We always have so much fun together. Family time is the best time. Cherish every moment with your loved ones, the memories will last forever. ❤

Little boy Punk

Preston has been surprising me a lot lately. He’s such a sweet boy. Here are a couple cute things he’s done that I just can’t stop grinning about!!!

First, last night he was walking up the stairs with his milk. When he got to the top he spilled a dab on the wood floor. (He didn’t even know I was watching) he went into the kitchen, grabbed a towel and wiped up the spilled milk and brought the towel back to the kitchen. Seriously?! What 1.5 going on 2 year old does that?? Without prompting??? I was so impressed with our little guy. Not to mention he always finds a coaster when he sets his drink down! #justlikemama

The next cute thing he did. He is not supposed to eat in the living room. Today he got his step stool, pulled it over toward the tv (but not in the living room) and sat there to eat his apple for breakfast.

image

Preston has started repeating every word you say! He’s become quite the talker. He says ‘mama pease’ which melts my heart and says ‘no mama’ when he doesn’t want to do something! Lol!!

He has also become very vocal about what he wears everyday. Which is usually his Jammies. Elmo, Thomas the Train (eeee), or Monkey!

There are so many other adorable things, but we’ve got errands to run in our sock monkey jammies!! Lol

…until next time. Xoxo

Home is wherever I’m with you

2 years.

Its been 2 years since we moved into our house. To celebrate we are putting up Christmas lights and having beer and pizza for dinner!

The past 2 years have flown by! We’ve welcome a little baby boy into our family and are loving every minute of it!! Our house is perfect for raising a family. Our neighborhood is growing, and recently, a park was built a block away from us. I can walk to the grocery store and ride my bike to the gym. We live in a college town that doesn’t actually feel like a college town!

image

image

but what I love most about my house is who I share it with!

image

Chad and I love the song  ‘home is wherever I’m with you’ by Edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros. It really hits home! This is the third place we’ve lived together–and I’m sure not the last–but the best part of it all is that we are together.

im soaking up every minute in this house! Right now I’m snuggling my sleep baby in front of the fire while I watch Friends.
imageCould this BE any more relaxing?! 😋

…until next time! Xoxo ❤️

Sensory & Busy Board

we made this busy board for Preston when he was about a year old. We’ve slowly been adding to it, and it’s pretty much done for the most part!

image

He loves playing with it and so does the little boy I babysit for on occasion!

We used a variety of things and found them at Lowes, Ace, or Wal-Mart!

  1. Street address numbers 1-5
  2. (3) door stoppers – fun for flicking!
  3. (2) wheels for spinning 🙂
  4. (3) drawer pulls in two different colors
  5. A chain lock
  6. a large drawer pull handle to hang things on
  7. a light switch
  8. a mailbox flag
  9. wooden letter to display the alphabet and vowels
  10. wooden circles that I painted purple and white – attached with velcro
  11. random wooden shapes, an apple, and a few animals. I painted them and attached them with Velcro!
  12. door knobs for turning

we added the letters more recently because Preston is obsessed! He’s known how to identify almost all of the letters in the alphabet since he was 18 months old. In the picture above he’s pointing to the letters and naming them!

Because of this board, Preston can now identify and say, butterfly (bub-By) bird (buwd) apple, snail (nose) lol! The last one cracks me up!!

I think I’m going to super glue a quarter, dime, nickel, and penny on there eventually. (On the right hand side, vertically, by the end of the alphabet.) That way he can learn to identify those. He is also obsessed with change and putting it into his piggy bank. 🙂

We made it on MDF particle board. I painted it and hubby did most of the hard work, I superglued the letters and velcrowed the shapes/animals.

We did attach the board to the wall so it can’t fall on Preston. But we plan on leaving it there until we are finished having kids! 😛

here is a better look at it!

image

Hopefully your kids enjoy it just as much as ours does!

…until next time! Xoxo
