Jack Bear turns ONE!

Happy birthday to our little Jack Bear!!! This past year has just flown by!!! I can’t hardly believe that one year ago today we were at the hospital patiently awaiting his arrival! I still remember freaking out when he came out because he wasn’t crying and he was pretty blue/purple at first. I just kept saying ‘why isn’t he crying?! Why isn’t he crying?!’ The Doctor was reassuring me that he would, and he did! It only took him about a minute to cry, but to a mother that had just pushed a baby out of her bits, it seemed like an eternity! The umbilical cord was wrapped so tightly around his neck and arm that the doctor had to actually cut the cord before I could even push him the rest of the way out. Even with all that, he still did really well on his APGARS!

Anyway, back to the start of our day…

Chad and I woke up early in the morning and headed to the hospital. Once I got there and got settled in, around 9:30am, they gave me a very tiny dose of pitocin to get things moving. That tiny dose was enough to get my contractions started! I was progressing really well, especially for being induced, they didn’t have to give me any more pitocin!  I was able to get my epidural once I was about 6 cm around 10:30am, and about an hour later at 11:20 I was already 10cm. We waited for Jack to progress down the birthing canal a little further. I started pushing at about 12:10 and only pushed through one contraction. Jack made his arrival at 12:12 pm!  It was a very quick, and smooth process, thankfully!!

Thinking back to my pregnancy with Jack, he wasn’t a very big mover. I’d feel movements every so often, but nothing compared to Preston. It never really worried me because he didn’t ever move much, so it never decreased. It did have me a bit worried when I was a week late and didn’t have a lot of movement, but like i said, it wasn’t much different from the rest of his pregnancy!

Jack has been pretty mellow from the beginning. He basically came out and slept around the clock. I had to wake him for feedings for the first week, once he packed on some pounds, I let him sleep and he’s basically been sleeping through the night since!

Jack is so sweet and is very social! He hates to miss out on anything!! I think that’s why he only takes one nap a day and has done that since about 8 months!! He takes one 2 hour nap a day. He usually sleeps for about 11-12 hour a night though. He’s in bed by 5:30 or 6pm and will sleep until anywhere from 5:30-6:30 in the morning. Jack has recently started walking!! I finally realized that he wouldn’t walk with socks or footed jammies on, and I always had him in one or the other!! Once I realized he would walk when he was bare foot, he started walking more often than not! Jack has some words he can say. It’s so cute!! He says: no, uh oh, hello, mama, dada, all done, and good. There might be more, but I can’t remember. He has his darn binky in so much he only talks when it’s out, obviously! Haha

Jack is a very good eater. He’s not picky at all. He will eat anything!! Hot or cold, savory or sweet. A few faves are: cheese, frozen peas, blueberries, and hummus!

He is just starting to get over a 3 week long sickness. It started with a cough and runny nose, vomiting, not eating much, and a fever. Then came a double ear infection and pink eye! It’s been neverending. I’m ready for my sweet boy to be healthy again!

Jack and Preston have the sweetest bond I’ve ever seen!! They love each other so much. They play together, give hugs and kisses, and get so excited to see each other after Preston gets done at school!! Preston takes such good care of jack. I have no doubt that he will be a huge help once the new baby arrives in March!

our little (big) Bear is quite the tank!! He is 26 lbs  (and just lost a pound from being sick) {96%} and is 30.5 inches long! {69%}. I always tell Chad how I can hardly lug him around in his car seat, think 50 lbs of dead weight, and I always giggle when he finally carries jack in his car seat somewhere and complains of how heavy he is. Haha! This pregnant wife lugs him around daily!! We recently got him his convertible car seat, but I can’t bare to make the switch!! Jack sleeps so well in his car seat when we are out and about. I think I’ll probably keep him in it until he hits the 30lb weight limit! Lol

We had a pretty low key day celebrating Jack’s birthday! It was just Chad, Preston, Jack, and me. We made some cinnamon rolls for breakfast and put a candle in it. We wore birthday hats and sang to Jack a few times throughout the day! He had a great day and even took a nice long nap for us!

We can’t wait to watch this sweet little guy turn into a young gentleman!

And for fun! Pictures from each month this past year:

AND Preston (left) and Jack (right) both on their first birthdays. Jack is 5 lbs heavier than Preston was! haha

Well, that’s about all for now! …until next time! xoxo ❤

Jack – 9 months

It’s Jack’s first September! The beginning of one of my favorite times of year. (okay,  so I promise I wrote this in September and just didn’t get around to posting until October 😛 ) It’s too bad it’s been SO hot out! I’m talking like 90 degrees. 😮 We had a 7 day stretch of 100 degree weather.

IMG_8206

He’s been up to so much lately! He can sign milk (which he actually started signing last month, but I forgot to mention it!) We have been working on ‘more’ now. He can also sign ‘all done’.

IMG_8208

He is just starting to enjoy food. He hasn’t really been to into it until recently. Which I suppose is good. Food before 1 is just for fun, right? We’ve still made sure to introduce a wide variety, helping his palate out while he’s young!! He loves hummus, cottage cheese, cherry tomatoes, avocado.  Last night we had him eating peas and carrots, which he seemed to enjoy!

IMG_8280

Jack has been so good at balancing on his own for a few months and he took his first step on September 20th!! I couldn’t hardly believe it! He was only 8 months old! He loves to crawl over to me, grab my fingers to pull himself up, and then he will wiggle his hands off of my fingers to balance. He will either take a step or practice sitting down from standing! This little dude is going to be walking before we know it!!

IMG_8559

He has 2 teeth on the bottom still. I’m pretty sure he’s cutting more teeth though because he has been pretty miserable. Thankfully he still is sleeping pretty well at night. He usually wakes up once. Last night he woke up to eat at 5am and then went back to sleep until 6:40am. It hasn’t been bad at all!!

IMG_8907

I started sleep training him last month. It’s been such a huge help. Nothing crazy, but better for all of us! It used to be we would get him to sleep and he would wake up crying the second we laid him down, or he would nap for 30 minutes on the dot and be up! Now that we have him ‘sort of’ put himself to sleep, he naps longer and better. Really it’s just been for naps because sleeping at night has never really been a problem for him.

IMG_8877

Jack loves his big brother. He just lights up every time he sees him. They love chasing each other around, playing peekaboo, and playing in the mulch outside. Jack can even drive cars with Preston and even the other day they were hiding out under our dining room table running from monsters. 🙂

Jack can wave, he can give kisses, and he can high five!! High fiving is really the only new thing out of those three. But he gets better and better each day!!

IMG_8267

Here is Jack over the months!! Jack is 23 pounds (92%) and 28 inches long.

Well, that’s all for now! I’ll leave you with a few more cute photos!

Jack – 8 months!

Time just needs to slow down!! Our little Bear is 8 months old!!

IMG_7119

He has been changing so much everyday! At the start of the month he was just crawling a few crawls and then dropping. Or doing his little monkey crawl!!

IMG_7250

Now he is crawling all over the place!! It’s really been quite nice because he doesn’t want me to carry him all day, everyday now! He’s so heavy my back and arms have been killing me. He can chase after big brother and take his toys. 😆

IMG_7053

Jack is able to stand by himself dor for a few seconds!!

IMG_7338

He loves standing.

IMG_7630

He can also pull himself up on things! Actually, this morning when we went in to get him from his crib, he was standing!!

IMG_7124

He has 2 teeth he’s had for a couple weeks now, cutting those 2 bottom teeth have been rough. He’s regressed on sleeping a bit because of it. For awhile he was waking up at 1am and 4am to eat. Thankfully he’s back to just waking up around 4:30 to eat. It’s a little hard to get him back to bed after that, but we do, and he will sleep until anywhere from 5:30-6:30. I do think he has more teeth about ready to come through. Fussy, drooling, chewing on his fingers constantly… I forgot how much work teething was.. for mom and baby!!

IMG_7460

He eats some solid foods. He really isn’t a huge fan of them yet. He loves hummus and cottage cheese!! We are trying to broaden his palate. He’s had spinach, fish, and so much more!! We always give him bits of what we are eating. I think that’s what helped with Preston when he was young. Now that kid will eat anything!!! We obviously don’t give him anything sugary, no need to become an addict alreasy! Lol. He has had puffs, but isn’t a huge fan. He’s not a huge fan of any baby food, really!! 🤷🏻‍♀️

IMG_7419

He had his first night over with his Grandma Eileen this past weekend. I think he was a little hard on her. Haha! He woke up a few times at night and was up bright and early in the morning. Im just glad we did it, it’s hard leaving them the first time!! Especially since he’s been EBF. However, my hubby gives him a bottle of breastmilk (8oz!) every night before bed. I really didn’t want Jack to rely on me to go to bed, like Preston used to. It made it so hard on me whenever I needed to be away for a bit. Preston never took a bottle either. 😱 So I’m just sooo happy our little Jack Bear can survive without his mama for a few hours, and even over night, if needed!!!

IMG_7066

jack usually goes up to bed at 6:30 and then will be up for the day about 5:30-6:30ish. Waking one time to eat. Which is great for a teething baby, I think!! Naptime is a different story. Jack will take two 30 min naps a day. That’s it!! And it’s sooo hard to get him to take a nap, too. It’s exhausting. Big brother still takes a 2-3 hour nap each day. I’m hoping he will sleep longer once I cut him down to one nap, but right now, he needs its morning nap, otherwise he gets so tired! For awhile with his afternoon nap, once he’d wake, I would go grab him and rock him so he would sleep longer (since it was during Prestons nap and I wanted to relax a bit longer). I’ve stopped doing that though, I’m not sure if that’s why Jack would wake up after exactly 30 minutes of sleep, knowing I’d come rock him then. Honestly, I’ll miss it, but I can’t get him used to napping while I rock him. I won’t be able to do that soon enough, so I don’t want to instill poor sleeping habits!! It’s a work in progress, we are both tired and exhausted during the day, but I’m hoping one day something will give! Until then, I’ll enjoy my MAYBE 20 minutes of alone/down time each day.

IMG_7389

I think that’s about it for our little Bear!

IMG_7505

He is a joy, and so sweet.

IMG_7223

He’s going through a tiny rough patch with teething and napping, but otherwise developing awesome!!

IMG_7121

Oh yeah, he also says mama and dada!

IMG_7032

And he waves!!!!! He’s just changing so much! 🙂

IMG_7173

One last family picture to end it 🙂

IMG_7609

…until next time!! xoxo ❤

Jack – 6 months

Happy half birthday to our little Bear!!

IMG_4745

Jack is such a little sweetie. He’s our chill – go with the flow – happy baby.

IMG_4710

He has been trying SO hard to crawl lately!! He gets those arms up and will push his legs forward, but he just hasn’t figured out how to get the to work together! haha. He isn’t able to get up on his knees yet!

IMG_4819

he does so well sitting up without falling over.

IMG_4689

He enjoys sitting up to play with his toys!

IMG_4679

He loves looking in the mirror and is always smiling at himself and when you talk to him and hold him up in the air!! That always makes him giggle. He’s still our smiley boy.

IMG_1684

(below is a picture of the boys in Iceland)

IMG_4433

When I was at Meijer this morning I had him facing forward in my infantino baby carrier and every single person we passed made a comment about how happy of a baby he was. Aparently he was flashing gummy smiles at everyone!! I lost count of how many people mentioned his smile at 20. 😳👏🏼

IMG_4226

Jack gets some baby food around dinner time. His favorite is peas so far. I did give him a few scrambled eggs the other day, he wasn’t too sure about that! He also had a mini bagel last weekend. Oops! He was in the carrier and wanted something to play with and we were at a pot luck so I saw a mini bagel for him to hold. The next thing I knew he has a tiny soggy piece left in the palm of his hand. Haha 🤣

IMG_4176

I give Jack a bottle every day at 5pm. I really want Jack to take a bottle since Preston never did. So I make sure to give him one everyday. He will drink anywhere from 3-5 oz which is great for an EBF baby!

image

Jack went on his first campout last weekend. We slept in a tent and the temps got down into the 40’s. So in order to keep warm we threw the book out the window and coslept and snuggled with lots of blankets and pillows. Brr!! He did really well and slept through the night! Woohoo!

speaking of sleeping through the night, jack has regressed a bit since we’ve returned from Iceland. Before we left, he slept a good 11 hours without waking. Now he will wake 1-2 times per night. Sometimes a binky will put him back down and sometimes I have to feed him. I’m hoping it’s a short lived stage and he’s just adjusting to being back!! Funny thing is that he slept through the night the entire 2 weeks we were in Iceland!!

IMG_1818

jack still doesn’t nap well. I can usually get him to take a nap first thing in the morning. The next nap all depends on what we have going on. Usually he will only nap 2 times a day (45 min each). If I’m lucky I can get him to nap for 1.5 hrs on days that Preston has school!

IMG_4766

jack weighs 23 pounds! He’s actually slowed down on the weight gain. He’s only gained one pound since last month! He still feels like carrying a sack of cement around. haha! my poor back!

IMG_4403

This weekend we are celebrating Jack with a nice long weekend at home!!! We will have 5 days with nothing to do. I can’t wait. It’ll be glorious!! Our first weekend home in over a month. We are hoping to get in a few bike rides, a picnic, maybe a couple trips to the library, aquatic center, and even the zoo! It should be a good time.

oh, and he loves his big Bro!! SO MUCH!!! Preston can get Jack to laugh like no one else! 🙂

IMG_1634

well that’s about it for our little Jack Bear!

…until next time! xoxo ❤

Overdue.

Well, I made it to 41 weeks with our newest addition! Let’s just say I didn’t realize how uncomfortable I actually was, until I pushed him out and I told my doctor how great I felt with all of that pressure off of my back!

I didn’t get a picture at 39 weeks because it was my 31st birthday and I had other things on my agenda. 🙂 So here is a picture of me at 40 weeks on December 23rd.

img_1173

By 40 weeks and 5 days I had a lot of people reaching out to me to see if I’d had the baby, or at least any contractions. So I figured I would update them all!  Haha.

(I was 2 cm at 38 weeks and 3 cm at 39 weeks. You’d think that would have meant the baby was coming soon. It didn’t!)

img_1345

And here is the final picture of me at 41 weeks! Large and in charge for sure!!

img_1918

Stay tuned for my next post on the arrival of our sweet baby boy.

…until next time! xoxo ❤

On the move!

Hi friends! I figured I’d do a little update of everything that’s been happening lately. After coming home from a much needed weekend away with my sisters and Che, the only thing that could have made life sweeter was an offer on our house.

A little overview of the last few days: I left home on Thursday to head to Chicago for a weekend away. Chad stayed at home with Preston until Sunday and then they headed to Chicago to meet Emily and I for dinner. We had an inspection on our new house on Monday. Heading back to Iowa after our inspection, we got a showing request for first thing Tuesday morning. So Chad dropped Preston and I off at my parents house and he headed straight to Nebraska for work. (That way we didn’t have to worry about getting out of the house before Preston even wakes up in the morning!) I was a little nervous as I hadn’t been home since Thursday, but knew I could trust hubby’s cleaning abilities.

So anyway, call me crazy, or hormonal and pregnant, but yesterday (tuesday) was the day for happy tears. Preston and I got home after being gone since Thursday. When I walked in the house and saw how clean and perfect Chad had left our house, I just couldn’t help but try and fight back the tears. I was so impressed! That’s been the stress of having our house on the market–keeping it perfectly clean for showings! Shortly after that, I received a call from our realtor, we had TWO offers coming in! um, what?! I was just so happy that there were people who loved our house just like we did. One of the couples even asked if we’d be interested in selling any of our furniture with the house, I was so flattered! 🙂 Anyway, with one of the offers that came in, also came with a letter to us from them. The letter was perfect and sweet and made me cry. They talked about how they loved how we had our house decorated and how it was already baby proofed. They have a 2 year old and a baby on the way this winter. (um, what? just like us!). They talked about how their son had found our raspberry bush in the backyard and couldn’t help but pick the raspberries and eat them (one of Preston’s favorite things to do) and they said that he played in the Preston’s sandbox the whole time they looked at our house. This letter couldn’t have been more perfect. It was just what I needed to hear. It’s been so hard thinking about even leaving this house that we have grown in and love, but knowing that there is a new family, just like us, that will be taking our place makes it seem a little more bearable. We’ve written a letter to send back to them and can’t wait for them to read it! Makes me cry just typing this up.

Those of you who have been unfortunate enough to be around me since we listed our house the beginning of October, know how stressed and worried I have been. Thank you for listening to me stress and worry and vent. I swear this whole process would have been so much better had I not been weeks away from having a baby.

(what if our house won’t sell? what if the contingency expires on the house we made an offer on in Illinois?  what if we are living out of a hotel with a toddler and a newborn? When can i start going through baby clothes for Pip? When can i start nesting? Am I stressing so much I’m going to go into early labor? Should I start packing my hospital bag?) you get the jist! #basketcase #nutjob

We are excited for the new adventures ahead, it’s going to be so bittersweet leaving this home! This is the home that we welcomed Preston home to and the one where we found out we were adding another bundle to our family! Hoping the next house will be perfect to making many new memories.

…until next time! xoxo

3rd trimester…bliss?!

happy third trimester to me! Normally I would be all about this third trimester business, but honestly, it’s just showing me how fast the time is flying by! Seriously!

image

I need this baby to keep cooking as long as possible! There is so much to do and get done before Pip2 makes his presence.

image

We are moving within the next month or two for my hubbys job. So our house is on the market, it’s been crazy around here trying keep a clean house, staying away for showings, watching the neighbor boy, hubby traveling every week. 😳 I’m overwhelmed just thinking about it!

image

Normally, I love fall and am counting down the days until Christmas! Not this year. Before Christmas rolls around we need to sell our house, but a new one, move, unpack, and have a baby. 😳 Along with all the other stuff that comes along with moving to another state.

image

I have been feeling pretty good the last few weeks! I’ve been making it to the gym to workout, yay!! I went to my favorite step aerobics class the other day, and it felt so nice! Other than being exhausted, things are going great. I am so grateful for this pregnancy and can’t wait to meet Pip2 for the first time!!! However, in the meantime, i could use a long nap and a day at the spa…but that might have to wait! Haha

image

hubby got me a massage last week and it was so nice to shut out the world and get a rub down from a professional. I loved it so much I scheduled another one in a few weeks!! I figured It would be well deserved by then, considering my hubby will be getting ready to start his new job by then, whether we are there with him or not. 😝

Not much longer now! We do have a house hunting trip scheduled for next week, so say a prayer our house will sell fast enough! 🙏

…until next time! Xoxo ❤️
